In a major relief for consumers, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction of Rs1.98 per unit in electricity tariffs under the quarterly adjustment mechanism, providing much-needed relief amid rising living costs in Pakistan.
The cut has been approved under the first quarterly adjustment for 2026, according to the latest NEPRA notification, and will bring relief to consumers of over Rs.67 billion.
The lower rate will apply to electricity bills issued in June, July and August 2026. During the three-month period, consumers will be able to save Rs1.98 per unit, while K-Electric consumers will also enjoy the benefit. Lifeline consumers will however not be protected by the quarterly adjustment mechanism, though.
Electricity Bills June 2026 Also Face Fuel Price Adjustment
The consumers will be enjoying the quarterly tariff reduction while NEPRA has also approved an increment of Rs1.19 per unit under the April 2026 Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA).
The regulator said the fuel adjustment charge would be levied on electricity bills from June 2026, that also covers K-Electric consumers.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had earlier asked for a bigger revision of Rs1.73 per unit in the fuel cost adjustment. But, after considering the request, NEPRA approved a lesser hike.
What This Means for Electricity Consumers
The fuel adjustment is Rs1.19 per unit whereas quarterly adjustment relief is Rs1.98 per unit, which will partially offset the fuel adjustment. Consequently, it is anticipated that many consumers will experience a net decrease in their electrical bills in the next few months.
This latest decision comes as electricity prices continue to be a major issue for households and businesses in Pakistan, and consumers are keenly watching NEPRA electricity tariffs, electricity bills, and fuel price adjustments.
