Mohammad Nabi, the veteran Afghanistan all-rounder, was fined 15 percent of the match fee and a demerit point by the ICC for violating the Code of Conduct. The incident occurred in the exciting T20 World Cup 2026 group D match between South Africa and Afghanistan in Ahmedabad, where Afghanistan lost in a double super over draw.
Mohammad Nabi ICC fine happened following a hot-tempered incident in the T20 World Cup 2026. The Afghanistan all-rounder violated the Group D game with South Africa on February 11, 2026 in Ahmedabad.
The ICC announced the sanction on February 12, 2026. Nabi disobeyed an umpire’s instruction under Article 2.4 – a Level 1 offence.
The dispute started at the beginning of the 14th over in Afghanistan’s innings. Nabi argued with the umpires over a wristband worn by South Africa bowler Lungi Ngidi. He refused to drop the issue and continue play.

Umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid leveled the charge. Third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan supported it. Match referee David Gilbert proposed the penalty.
Nabi admitted the offence right away. He accepted the sanction, so no formal hearing took place.
The penalty includes a 15% deduction from his match fee. Nabi also gets one demerit point on his record. This marks his first offence in the last 24 months.
Afghanistan lost the match to South Africa in a dramatic double Super Over. The T20 World Cup 2026 runs in India and Sri Lanka from early February to early March.
