Karachi residents may face another round of water shortage as the 84-inch pipeline at the Dhabeji Pumping Station has developed a fresh leak. This pipeline, which was recently repaired, is a vital source of water for the city, supplying a whopping 2.5 billion gallons.
Reports reveal that the pipeline’s new leak is causing water to accumulate in a trench. Just days ago, on December 3, the same pipeline was damaged in two places during construction work for the Red Line project. That incident left Karachi without water for eight long days, causing immense inconvenience to millions.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) is still deciding the best way to handle the situation. They are weighing two options: shutting off the water supply temporarily to fix the leak or carrying out repairs while keeping the water flow uninterrupted.
This is not the first time Karachi’s water supply has been disrupted. With a rapidly growing population, issues like these only add to the city’s water woes, which already affect daily life.
