Sindh has taken a significant leap forward in public transportation with the launch of the Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS) for the Peoples Bus Service. This innovative system, unveiled by Sindh Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi, brings the convenience of smart card payments to bus commuters.
Minister Memon highlighted the government’s commitment to leveraging modern technology to enhance public services. With the AFCS, passengers can now easily pay for their bus rides using a smart card, ensuring a smoother and more transparent fare collection process. Initially implemented on Route 1 and 9 buses, this system promises to revolutionize how people commute across the city.
Moreover, Minister Memon emphasized the government’s dedication to affordability, maintaining the bus fare at an accessible Rs50 per person for journeys spanning 35 to 40 kilometers, despite fluctuations in fuel prices. This move underscores the government’s focus on making public transport accessible and affordable for all citizens.
Additionally, Minister Memon highlighted initiatives such as the Pink Buses exclusively for women, a rarity in many parts of the world. He also mentioned ongoing projects like the Orange Line and Yellow Line, alongside plans for expanding routes and introducing electric vehicle (EV) buses to further enhance the Peoples Bus Service.
This introduction of the smart card system marks a significant step towards a more efficient and commuter-friendly public transport experience, reflecting Sindh’s commitment to modernization and convenience for its citizens.
