New Public Transport Route in Islamabad: Constitution Avenue Reopens After 15 Years

After a 15-year hiatus, Constitution Avenue in Islamabad has been reopened to public transport, much to the relief of government employees and commuters. The capital administration has introduced a new route, Route No. 42, which will connect key government buildings and institutions, making it easier for officials and visitors to navigate the city.

In 2007, the capital’s Red Zone was established, restricting public transport on Constitution Avenue. While cabs were permitted, wagons were not, causing difficulties for government employees working along the avenue. The Metro Bus service provided some relief, but the lack of public transport on the entire Constitution Avenue remained a challenge.

The new Route No. 42 wagon will run from Serena Hotel to Kohsar Chowk, passing by key landmarks such as the Foreign Office, Islamabad High Court, Election Commission, Parliament House, PTV, Marriott Hotel picket, and Kohsar Chowk. This route will provide a convenient and efficient way for officials and visitors to access these important government institutions.

To ensure the safety and security of commuters, all vehicles on this route will be searched and scanned before entering the Red Zone. These vehicles will operate exclusively within Constitution Avenue throughout the day. Additionally, the details of drivers and conductors will be verified by the relevant department.

The reopening of Constitution Avenue to public transport is a welcome move for government employees and commuters. This new route will reduce travel time, increase accessibility, and provide a more convenient way to navigate the city. The capital administration’s efforts to address the long-standing issue of public transport on Constitution Avenue are commendable, and this move is expected to benefit thousands of commuters daily.
