(Gur) Jaggery Price Skyrocket in Pakistan: Sugarcane Shortage Blamed!

Inflationary trends in Faisalabad have not spared the jaggery market, causing a significant surge in prices. Over the past year, the cost of a 78-kilogram sack of jaggery has skyrocketed by 5,000 rupees, pushing the current selling price to a staggering 13,000 rupees.

This price hike has left consumers, who were accustomed to purchasing the same quantity of jaggery for 8,000 rupees last year, contemplating abandoning its use due to the prohibitive cost. The escalating prices have also raised concerns among dealers, who attribute the increase to a slump in sugarcane production and its export to Afghanistan.

The situation has prompted calls from both citizens and shopkeepers for administrative intervention to regulate jaggery prices. The plea for price control measures underscores the community’s growing anxiety over the inflationary impact on essential commodities.
