Multan Orphan’s Killing: Suspect Dies in Alleged Encounter a Day After Court Hearing

Police claim Tauqeer Nazir, accused of running over 15-year-old orphan Waseem Abbas in Multan, died in an alleged encounter in Bahawalpur on Wednesday. Officers claim he escaped custody after a court granted police four days to investigate the killing.

An orphanage sent Waseem Abbas to contractor Tauqeer Nazir to learn electrical work about a week before his death. Police claim the teenager wanted to leave after alleged mistreatment. On October 19, a car struck and killed him in Multan’s Royal Orchard housing society.

Two days later, Punjab’s Crime Control Department, a police unit known as CCD, reported Tauqeer’s death near Bahawalpur’s Northern Bypass following his alleged escape from custody.

CCTV Records the Chase

CCTV footage showed Waseem running along the street before the vehicle hit him. Police claimed their initial investigation found no evidence of theft by the teenager.

The police complaint names Tauqeer and Amjad Ali as suspects. Officers allege the pair chased Waseem and deliberately ran him over because he wanted to leave the job.

Police registered the murder case under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, covering murder and acting together in a crime. The complaint says Tauqeer was apprehended at the scene and Amjad escaped. Police seized the vehicle as evidence.

In a video circulated online, Tauqeer claimed the vehicle slipped as he tried to block Waseem’s path. Police treated the incident as an intentional killing. Waseem’s family later buried him in Daulatpur village in Muzaffargarh district.

Court Appearance to Reported Escape

On October 20, Judicial Magistrate Saadia Aslam granted police four days to question Tauqeer in custody. Reports also claim lawyers assaulted him during his court appearance. The CCD subsequently claimed he escaped custody on Tuesday night.

CCD District Officer Irfan Akbar said officers tried to stop two men riding a motorcycle near Bahawalpur’s Northern Bypass on Wednesday morning. He said the men fired at police as they tried to flee.

Akbar claimed Tauqeer died from bullets fired by his companion, who escaped from the scene.

Police claim Amjad, the second suspect in Waseem’s killing, also remained at large. Authorities have not identified the man accompanying Tauqeer during the alleged encounter or established whether he was Amjad.

Police have not explained how Tauqeer escaped custody during his four-day remand or reached Bahawalpur.
