Iran has released footage showing military drone production facilities and large stocks of domestically manufactured drones. Army chief Amir Hatami said the country was prepared for unconventional warfare as Tehran continues to expand its military capabilities.
Iranian state television aired the footage on October 22, 2026. It showed workers and rows of drones inside what Iranian officials described as an underground production facility.
Iran Claims Drone Production and Stockpiles Have Expanded
Hatami said Iran had expanded its production centers and maintained substantial reserves. He credited the progress to domestic infrastructure, scientific research and cooperation with universities and technology companies.
Iranian state media also highlighted an upgraded version of the Arash attack drone. Reports described a warhead weighing 100 kilograms, compared with 50 kilograms in the earlier version. The reported specifications have not been independently verified.
Why Iran Is Showing Its Underground Drone Facility
The footage comes amid the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. The fighting began in February 2026. Washington has identified weakening Iran’s missile and drone capabilities as a military objective.
Underground production facilities could help protect military equipment and manufacturing operations from air strikes. However, the released footage does not establish how much of Iran’s production capacity remains operational or how many drones its forces currently hold.
Hatami said Iran’s military had improved its ability to conduct asymmetric warfare. This strategy uses different methods and relatively low-cost systems to challenge a more powerful opponent. Drones form a key part of Iran’s approach to military deterrence and defense.
