Punjab Expands E-Bike Scheme with Zero Down Payment for Students

The Punjab government has launched the latest phase of the CM Maryam Nawaz E-Bike Scheme, providing over 125,000 electric bikes to university and college students with zero down payment and fully subsidized interest

Chairing a high-level review meeting in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif formally rejected proposals requiring students to pay a down payment or any hidden secondary fees. Under the revised guidelines, the provincial administration is absorbing all markup/interest and insurance costs.

The financial structure is made for maximum affordability. It features:

  • Monthly Installments: Fixed at approximately Rs 3,000 per month across an easy repayment window
  • Vehicle Specs: The e-bikes feature modern Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries, with color codes designated as black for male students and pink for female students.
  • Included Accessories: Every recipient receives a safety rod and a full-face helmet completely free of charge

Application Portal and Distribution Timeline

The official application portal (bikes.punjab.gov.pk) opened for students from both government and private educational institutions across Punjab.

To ensure safety and readiness, the government has mandated a free two day e bike riding training program for successful applicants.

Authorities have been directed to streamline verifications and complete the distribution of vehicles to eligible students within a strict six-week window

Furthermore the Chief Minister has granted in-principle approval to gradually expand the initiative to include government employees, public sector departments, and commercial delivery riders in future phases
