Babar Azam Returns to ICC Test Top 10 After Two Years

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has returned to the top 10 in the latest ICC Test ranking update. He broke an almost two-year drought following a decisive victory against the West Indies.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam ICC test ranking show that he has re-entered the top 10 of the ICC Test batting rankings for the first time since September 2024.

The right-hander jumped five spots to secure 10th position after leading Pakistan to an eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second Test, ending a three-year away Test win drought.

Babar scored a brilliant 88 in the first innings and remained unbeaten on 24* in the second innings to seal the win.

Big Gains for Pakistan Test Players

Babar was not the only Pakistani player to gain from the West Indies victory:

  • Abdullah Shafique: The opening batter jumped 25 positions to 32nd place in the Test batting rankings after scoring an unbeaten 160* in the first innings.
  • Sajid Khan: The off-spinner moved up five places to 30th among Test bowlers and gained five spots to reach 32nd in the Test all-rounder rankings.
  • Khurram Shahzad: Improved his bowling ranking by one spot to 51st.

Meanwhile, other Pakistani batters saw minor drops. Saud Shakeel fell two spots to 26th, Mohammad Rizwan dropped one place to 27th, Salman Ali Agha fell six slots to 38th, and Shan Masood dropped three places to 39th. Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi currently holds 28th position in the Test bowling chart.

Top Global Test Rankings

The top positions in Test cricket remain unchanged at the summit:

  • Test Batting: Australia’s Travis Head holds the No. 1 spot, followed by England’s Harry Brook (2nd) and Joe Root (3rd).
  • Test Bowling: India’s Jasprit Bumrah leads the rankings, with New Zealand’s Matt Henry in 2nd and Australia’s Mitchell Starc in 3rd.
  • Test All-Rounders: India’s Ravindra Jadeja retains the top ranking.
