Karachi, Pakistan — Prolonged power outages have intensified across Karachi, with load shedding in multiple areas exceeding 12 hours a day. Both scheduled and unscheduled electricity cuts are being reported, causing widespread disruption to residents and businesses alike.
The increasing temperature has also increased the demand of the electricity thus adding more pressure to the already weak power supply system in the city. Poorly affected areas include Korangi, Surjani Town, Liaquatabad, and Saddar where people are spending long hours without power on a daily basis.
Commercial activities have been seriously affected by the current power crisis. The local markets, shops and small businesses are incurring losses in terms of their financial losses as a result of closed time and power outages. Declining productivity and mounting operational challenges have raised the concern of many traders.
The same applies to residential areas where citizens find it hard to endure the extreme heat and shortage of basic amenities. Lack of electricity has created inconvenience in normal life as everything including household chores and even availability of clean water has been affected since many people use electric pumps to supply water.
The experts in the energy field attribute the deteriorating condition to the rising electricity demand on warm months, the constraints of infrastructure, and inefficientities in the distribution. Meanwhile, residents have called for urgent government intervention to address the crisis and ensure a more reliable power supply.
As the long outages persist without an immediate solution, the question of the health, economic stability, and general quality of life in the largest city of Pakistan remains a concern.
