Walee Technologies made history at the Lahore Expo Centre on Monday by acquiring the former Multan Sultans franchise for a record PKR 245 crore. This landmark deal makes it the most expensive team in PSL history. Group CEO Ahsan Tahir immediately announced that the franchise rebranded as Rawalpindi for the upcoming PSL 2026 season.

The PSL 11 Multan Sultans auction reached a fever pitch as five technically qualified bidders battled for ownership. Walee Technologies, led by Walee Tech owner Ahsan Tahir, outlasted competitors like CD Ventures and Particle Igniter. Interestingly, former Multan Sultan owner Ali Tareen and his firm, Deharki Sugar Mills, remained present but did not place a bid. The final price of PKR 245 crore shattered the base price of PKR 182 crore.
Multan Sultan New Name

This acquisition by the Walee group marks a strategic shift for the league. By moving the team to the twin cities, the Multan Sultan new name—Rawalpindi—aims to capture one of the largest cricket markets in Pakistan. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi handed over the symbolic key to Walee, confirming that PSL teams finalized for the “New Era.”
Walee Technologies owner Ahsan Tahir stated that Walee is proud to contribute to Pakistan cricket’s growth. The company, known for its dominance in MarTech and FinTech, previously held the digital rights to PSL. Now, as a franchise owner, Walee Tech plans to revolutionize fan engagement in Rawalpindi. The Multan Sultans’ auction success reflects the soaring commercial value of the league as it expands to an eight-team format.
With the Multan Sultan era closing, fans now look toward the PSL auction for players. The new Rawalpindi franchise will enter the draft with a fresh identity and the highest financial backing in the tournament’s history.
