Severe Heatwave Alert in Lahore: Temperatures to Soar Above Normal

Lahore and many parts of Punjab are bracing for an intense heatwave, with temperatures expected to rise 4 to 6°C above normal starting May 21. The heatwave is predicted to escalate to severe levels from May 23, persisting until May 27, with daytime temperatures soaring 6 to 8°C above the usual averages.

Farmers and Public Advised to Take Precautions

Authorities advise farmers to take necessary measures to protect their crops. The general public is strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight to prevent heat-related illnesses. The extreme dry and hot conditions also pose a significant risk of bush and forest fires in vulnerable areas of Punjab.

Weather Synopsis

Current synoptic conditions indicate that continental air is dominating most parts of Pakistan. As a result, Lahore and several districts in Punjab will experience extremely hot and dry weather starting Monday night and continuing through Tuesday and Wednesday. Gusty winds capable of raising dust are expected during the afternoons.

Temperature Forecast for Lahore

In Lahore, temperatures are forecasted to reach 42-44°C on Tuesday and climb to 43-45°C on Wednesday.

Recent Weather Observations

In the past 24 hours, Lahore and other districts in Punjab have already experienced hot and dry weather. The highest temperature was recorded at 46°C in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan, Jhang, and Khanewal. Lahore saw a maximum temperature of 44°C, with evening humidity levels recorded at 17%.
